Ok so instead of just inventing weeks that I didn't blog I'll do one giant blog to make up for my blogtasrophe.
I found some video for the Golden Compass! It's like a work in progress teaser or something, and look! The animals have been inserted with CGI:

I dunno. Teaser trailers are usually not anything to go by. They make it look pretty corn-ball. The production team obviously have a very different view of what Lyra's world looks like. I imagined a world where the Reformation never took place. Sort of stuck in time but at the same time... advancing? And consumed with religion. So dark, middle-ages but with more advanced technology. They've made it look like turn of the 19th Century but cleaner and more "space age".
Here is some artworks/concepts I have been doing. I've mostly been experimenting with colour:
This is kind of concept art for a story in my mind! I know, I'm crazy.
And this is a little picture of my friend. I kind of went with a crazy line of action, there.
Also, they have nothing to do with any of my assignments.
In my next post I will pull together my thumbnails etc. for my animatic. I'm having trouble getting strong silhouettes (I knew that would be the case) but I'll keep at it until I get something I'm happy with. Something in me wants to focus on expressions and such, but it's not going to help me much at this stage.
Classes lately have mainly been focussed on helping us with thumbnails/storyboards, with lots of practical lectures. We also got to see some animatics for big films like Hellboy (which I must see, because I haven't yet, and apparently that's unforgivable. Hmph.) and King Kong (which I also haven't seen. Geez! I'm sorr-eeee). So now I know what is expected of me when it comes to the finished animatic. Very useful to know, indeed. It was also good to get a refresher on things that we did last year, like repegging etc. I'll probably have to ask Mark for help again later into my assignment. Sorry Mark! I have issues remembering this stuff!
