More Concepts

Saturday, June 9, 2007

This is an update on my concept art assignment! This way my teammates and I can keep up with each others' work AND fill our blogs at the same time. GENIUS.

Some birds! Note I went with the idea of a smaller sparrow/wren/budgie inspired golden bird. I like the idea of it being so small you can carry it in your palm, and it's cage would be tiny as well. But it's plumage is brilliantly gold and beautiful so it seems extremely precious. When you think about it, most precious stones and jewellery, even the 'big' ones, are small enough to fit into your palm. I just thought a big phoenix/peocock-like bird seems a bit obvious. But that's just my opinion :)

Ok some fox sketches! I toned down the 'cute' factor a little, and incorporated aspects of a jackal, as Leon suggested.

A colour 'mood' piece for the fox. I feel sorry for the little guy! In the end he gets his head and paws cut off D:

A colour key for the fox. I like the patch on the back, I think it gives him a bit of distinction without being unnatural. Also his tail is what makes him 'magical' in that it is massive, and very strong, and extendable. It tapers sharply and is weighted at the tip to make it look like he could 'whip' it, the action that makes it extend.

Some princesses. I like the design of her hair, I'm a bit iffy on the dress, but I like the colour. She has red hair because she is the fox's sister. As I mentioned earlier, she comes from/is being held captive by a fishing village. So her costume reflects the fish, being green and incorporating fins, scales and fishing hooks.

WIP!

Monday, June 4, 2007

I haven't got much to say this week, so I'll post a work in progress!

It's a treehouse based kingdom! But you can't really tell yet. I based it a little bit on Chinese architecture but not a whole lot. I hope this turns out ok, I'm not really good at drawing buildings and stuff. I think once I add the natural elements like the trees and waterfalls etc. it will start to look a little more like what I had in mind.
Photoshop as usual!
